Message from Terry Wills:
Wills began as a moving and storage business in 1945.
As the needs of the market changed, so did we. Today, the
company remains the largest United Van Lines agent in Eastern
Ontario, but a significant portion of our business is in
commercial warehousing and freight transportation
The
success of our logistics company has paralleled the growth
of this important “in-between” market, about
halfway between Toronto and Montreal. Top manufacturers
like 3M, Nestle and Hersheys have established manufacturing
plants here to capitalize on the lower land costs and excellent
labor pool. We provide just-in-time inbound logistics support
to these and other customers to maximize plant production.
For finished goods distribution, companies like Wal-Mart,
Sears and Black & Decker have established their own
distribution logistics centres in the region to capitalize
on the central location, convenient access to border crossings
and lower real estate and labor costs. As other companies
follow, they are using Wills’s existing distribution
logistics network to ship finished goods to points across
Canada and
the Eastern U.S.
Here’s
some of what sets Wills apart:
Deep roots. Despite changes to the business,
our value system has remained constant. Today we carry on
a tradition of integrity and
service to the customer established in 1945 by my Grandfather,
George Wills, and father, Osborne Wills.
Good
people who care about your business, and who stick around.
The average tenure of our warehouse staff is16 years and,
in an era of record driver turnover, our drivers have been
with us an average of 10 years.
A
track record of success with some of the world’s best-known
and most demanding companies. 3M, International
Paper, Hersheys and Nestle are just a few of the companies
we are proud to serve.
An
ability and willingness to invest in systems. These
investments enable us to combine the personal service of
a smaller, owner-driven company with the sophistication
of large, third-party logistics company.
Trucks.
Our own trucks. When a critical shipment needs to be delivered,
we don’t have to rely on an outside carrier to get
it done.
Going
forward, we want to be known as the company that offers
the best customer experience in our chosen markets. A simple
ideal, but one
that is as important and relevant today as it was in 1945.
