Take Our Kids to Work Program

On Wednesday, November 1st, it was Take Our Kids to Work Day. This is an annual program for Grade 9 students to “support career exploration and career readiness among Canadian public school students“.

This year, Wills Transfer hosted 3 students at the Smiths Falls and Brockville Wills sites. The day started with introductions and a video on Health and Safety at the workplace. Terry Wills provided an overview of the company and a summary of the operations, history, and purpose/values. They had the opportunity to view three warehouses and many different types of activity from tractor/trailers, lift trucks and administration roles such as dispatch and customer service representatives. Each student was able to job-shadow their parent and get an idea of their parent’s daily tasks, and the number of roles within logistics.

The three students were quite engaged and asked lots of great questions. They were quite surprised by the amount of activity that goes on in a day and of the number of products stored in the warehouses. It was a wonderful opportunity for Wills Transfer to show and teach the logistics industry to young students. Take Our Kids to Work Program is an excellent tool for students to gain respect for the work environment that not only do one of their parent’s work at but also ~900,000 people in Canada (Statistics Canada) work at.

The day ended with each student receiving a Certificate of completion and was given a Wills hoodie and sunglasses as a thank you for choosing to spend their day at Wills Transfer and for respecting this opportunity to learn about the industry.

We hope to get more students next year!
