Today is a very difficult day in the history of Wills Transfer Limited.
From our beginnings in 1945, Wills Transfer Limited has been involved in household goods moving and storage. This business has been part of our heritage, and the part of the business that grew our Company through the 1970, 80’s and the 90’s. I grew up in this business, was a helper, packer, driver dispatcher and salesman. It is in my blood.
It has provided employment for drivers and helpers and packers and summer jobs for college and university students for 69 years.
The household goods moving industry has taken some huge hits over the past 2 decades. Rates have steadily declined since deregulation in 1985. Pricing today includes discounts that average 75% off published tariffs. Revenues have fallen behind cost increases for more than a decade.
After much analysis (and heartache) we have come to the conclusion that this part of our business is no longer sustainable.
The difficult decision has been made to close the household goods portion of Wills Transfer Limited as of November 30, 2014.
I want to thank all our employees of this division for their hard work and service to our Company, and our customers who have supported our business for these many years.
Our commercial warehousing and logistics business has grown substantially during the past 5 years, and we look forward to focusing our efforts in these areas in the coming years. As we continue to foster the growth of Wills Transfer Limited, we are confident that this change will allow these other avenues of the business to continue to be strong and prosperous for the Company.
